ABOUT THE FILM:
The longest trail in the world, the Trans Canada Trail stretches 16,000 miles across the continent, connecting the Atlantic, Pacific & Arctic Oceans.
Boasting gorgeous cinematography, gruelling challenges and an awesome soundtrack, 500 DAYS IN THE WILD recounts Dianne Whelan’s incredible, six-year journey by bicycle, canoe, skis, snowshoes and on foot, as she traverses all of the land & water routes of the Trans Canada Trail – the only person to have ever accomplished this remarkable feat.
A woman in her 50s who is not an extreme athlete, Dianne grapples with fires, floods, bears, river rapids, hypothermia and COVID-19 isolation. The friends who occasionally join her on the trail to help with filming are similar in age, making the resulting documentary a momentous cheer for – as Dianne puts it – “women over 50 who kick butt!
Weaving together true-life adventure, personal reflections, reconciliatory visits with Indigenous Elders and stunning captures of wildlife & landscapes, this feature doc will entertain audiences and inspire hope for the future.
Starting out alone and disillusioned with the divisive state of the world, looking for better ways of caring for the land and for one another, Dianne ends the journey more hopeful and burning brighter, both with a new love and a passion to share her astonishing story.
